Over 500 men from Burnham-on-Crouch served in the Forces during the Great War. 98 died during or immediately after the end of the conflict. They are commemorated by initials and surname on the Great War memorials in the town. This tribute to the 98 men reveals who they were, what they did before the war, in which unit they served, fought and died and where they are buried or commemorated. The tribute also contains details of the war memorials erected in four churches in Burnham during the early nineteen twenties.

The Museum had arranged an impressive display centred on the men who are featured on the Town War Memorial. After welcoming the guests which included Mr Norman Hume, Chairman of Essex County Council, Mr Peter Elliott, Vice Chair of Maldon District Council, the author, Walter Jenkins said that he was pleased to see so many relatives of the Fallen attending the event. He then presented the Mayor of Burnham-on-Crouch, Mr Ron Pratt, with a signed copy of the book in acknowledgement of the support he had received from the Town Council.
